Asthma Educator Istitute

Program fee: $250

This is a two-day preparatory course for qualified health professionals
who would like to take the National Asthma Educator Certification exam
sponsored by the National Asthma Educator Certification Board.

Freedom From Smoking®

Stop smoking classes meet 7 times. Fee: $75. Payment arrangements can be made. Call Molly at 421-6487 for more information or to register.   This program is not offered during the summer.

Freedom From Smoking® Club

For ongoing support or working up to the decision to take action. Meets the 1st Tuesday of the month at Buttonwoods Community Center, Warwick from 6-7 p.m.

Freedom From Smoking® Facilitator Training


Health professionals, educators, and others are eligible to be trained as Freedom From Smoking facilitators. Training includes: nuts and bolts of the clinic, facts and figures on smoking, how to manage a group and more. Once trained, facilitators are able to conduct a Freedom From Smoking clinic at their place of work or on a freelance basis through the American Lung Association. Trainings will be held at various locations throughout the year.

Freedom From Smoking® Online

Freedom from Smoking Online is a free 24-hour online quit smoking program that provides participants with tools and techniques that are essential to successfully quit smoking. This online program provides educational modules that allow participants to progress through at their own pace. This program gives smokers an opportunity to build a support system through online message boards.

Help Yourself to Better Breathing 

A once-a-week for four weeks educational program for people with lung disease and their families.
Do you have COPD (Emphysema/Chronic Bronchitis) or asthma?
Do you want to learn more about your medications, how to breathe a little easier and cope better?
Sessions are taught by health care professionals

N-O-T Facilitator Training

N-O-T is a state-of-the-art program specifically designed for teenagers who want to stop smoking. N-O-T is not a series of lessons about the evils of tobacco. It offers very specific help with tough problems like nicotine withdrawal and how to manage its symptoms to prevent relapses. This multiple session program is designed for teens, grades 9 through 12, for smoking cessation.

A N-O-T facilitator training will be held on Thursday, October 4, 2007 in the American Lung Association’s East Hartford office (45 Ash Street, East Hartford, CT 06108.)  All individuals interested in working with teenagers, 13-18, in a high school, or outside group are invited to attend.  This program cannot be altered to educate children or adults on smoking cessation.  The program will run 9:30 -3:30pm, and there is a $100.00 fee to participate.  To register, please call (781) 890-4262 and ask for Jessica at extension 207.
